Yuck! Whisky and Bourbon are both best enjoyed straight. (IMHO). I won't get into the issue of adding ice or water, or drinking it neat...to each their own.
Save the cola for a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

How about a Rusty Nail? Scotch (whisky) mixed with Scotch (Drambuie)

A few months ago, I would have put Laphroig my "just say nae" list, but I've found that paired with the right meal (in my case, a succulent filet mignon), it actually can be quite enjoyable. I wouldn't drink it by itself, though... only with steak.

I typically find Laphroig overpowering, however I discovered it went perfectly when a friend broke out a bottle on a camping trip while sitting around the fire on a chilly night. I have always said that if you think that you don't like Scotch Whisky you haven't tried enough of them. I guess i could expand that to say if you think you don't like a single malt, it may be because you simply haven't found the proper situation to drink it in. That being said, despite its popularity i still avoid Macallan (especially their cask strength). They all seem to have a latex taste to me which I do not find pleasant.

Chapter 6 (Unpeated)

Chapter 9 (Peated)

These English Whiskies are quite drinkable now but I think they will get better, they are still only 3y/o. The Chapter 6 unpeated is nice and mellow but the peated is pretty heavy in a Laphroigie sort of way. You have to really enjoy the smokier malts to get on with Chapter 9.

Japanese Whisky?
I've tried this Yamazaki 12 (or it might have been a 10) and thought it was was very drinkable... Bit pricey though.

Aye, right down on the bottom shelf with Clan MacGregor (which I'll admit to buying more than one bottle of in college when cash was tight- ie nearly always)
