Scotch Whiskies to Avoid!
Despite being a positive sort, I think it only appropriate to those that want to spend their money wisely to assist by posting whiskies that fail to make the grade, IMHO. Here are two that make me gag:
- Tomintoul - a nice first impression that leaves you with a bitter after taste and scrunched up face;
- Arran - same story.
Do you have a scotch to warn against?

I shall be shot for saying it, but avoid Ben Nevis at all costs.

A few months ago, I would have put Laphroig my "just say nae" list, but I've found that paired with the right meal (in my case, a succulent filet mignon), it actually can be quite enjoyable. I wouldn't drink it by itself, though... only with steak.

Guess that means we can't be friends... You just named two of my favourites.

On the contrary, he's the best friend to have. He won't be drinking all your hootch!

I used to travel a lot and discovered that any whisky bottled outside Scotland needed to be approached with care. Some turned out to be quite acceptable, but others were not worthy of the reputation that came with their names. Apparently the license to bottle doesn't always carry with it some sort of standard assurance.
At home, however, I've yet to come across a malt I dislike so much I would turn down a repeat testing

Auchentoshan Classic. Some of their other offerings may be better, but I recall trying this one a few years ago and deciding that if this is typical of Lowland malts I want no part of them.

Now "Auchentoshan" I like. In all it's guises. Funny ol' world in'it.
Not desperately keen on this "Aberlour 10". It's not 'orrible it's just not the first bottle in mee trolley.
I had a "Dalwhinnie 15" once that I found a bit fierce and that makes me hesitate... at the till at least.
This "English Whisky Co. Chapter 6" is quite a favorite of mine though not to everyone's taste apparently. Worth giving it a try though eh?
