    I know that applies to wine bottles but I never heard of it for the whisky version where the corks are topped by plastic as they are.

    And per some other posts, yes I did decide the house or some unseen occupant therein wanted a share of spirits, perhaps a la The Amityville Horror only milder. But I hope next time they will accept some lesser whisky and leave off the Highland Park.

    The other living occupant complains that the place 'still' smells like the inside of an old whisky barrel, which indeed is quite apt, and I keep telling her to think of it as the most expensive Glade Air Freshener ever.

    Forgetting my sometimes irrepressible strength, I destroyed the cork in a bottle of Laphroaig. Thankfully, I had previously bought on impulse a decorative wine bottlestopper; so, I shoved that thing in there.
