I wonder what the report said.
"Bovine imposter"?
Ah, one of the truly great movies of late! My daughter and I love that one.

Two things spring to mind:
1) They may have assassinated a future menace, a baby Cylon (funny).
2) During their Afghanistan sojurn, where so much was learned by so many, the Soviets disguised anti-personnel mines as toy trucks and so on (not funny).
Either way, the cops were correct. Consider the alternative.

Just because the news media used the phrase Blow Up/Blew Up dose not mean that is what the bomb squad actually did. While they sometimes used small amounts of explosives to get rid of these things, that is rarely done at the scene and certainly not next to the support for a bridge. What they more than likely used was a water canon which tears apart the object and disrupts any electronics or explosives.

For some reason, every time a bomb squad gets to blow something up, I envision them picking up a case of beer, a couple sticks of dynamite, and a large slingshot. Really, how often do guys have a legitimate reason to blow stuff up? Particularly, blow stuff up and get paid for it, rather than having someone call the cops?
That would be more fun, anyway .

Well, that would be my approach....

Yeah, I keep a close watch on my Lewis Rich hose...

Sounds pretty straightforward, they used an appropriate amount of explosive to destroy the robot, not take out a bridge.
I thought you said you were going to glue an orange wig on it before you cemented it down Nighthawk?
Well, super glue works great on concrete, but my cat got a little upset when I tried to glue her to the robot. She got all bitey and stuff...
