Indeed. Heavy snows will usually knock down some land lines somewhere, affecting phone & computer service. Last week my daughter's school bus was delayed by downed power lines from one nights heavy snow fall.

A couple of years ago I was knocked off-line twice because of some massive power outage on the east coast that affected my service provider out here on the west coast! Trickle down consequences indeed!
