Well, what ever it is (and I can't imagine why it wouldn't be Balmoral tartan) Guy Pierce (as Edward VIII) is seen wearing a suit of the same tartan once Colin Firth & Helena Bonham-Carter (the Duke and Duchess of York) arrive at Balmoral Castle.

I can't comment on the tartan worn by Colin Firth (though I did wonder what it might be) but I can say I enjoyed the film immensely. I stuttered as a child so I can appreciate his efforts to overcome the affliction.

It was an enjoyable way to spend a morning at the movies, and I could definitely recommend it as a "thumbs up" from this member of the rabble. Even though the kilted section was less than 10 minutes overall.
-OK
we are wondering if that is the Macewan tartan kilt that he wears in the movie

No, it's not McEwan. The debate rages.

While watching the film I thought that the tartan that George VI (Firth) is wearing was the Holyrood tartan or something similar.
On another note, the film is really good and I highly recommend it.

He actually won an award for his acting in the film as well. :-)

In one scene of the King's Speech, (when the family is moving to the palace) the Princesses Elizabeth and Margret seem to be sporting skirts in the Balmoral tartan or a similar looking set.

Has anyone thought of contacting someone to ask what tartan they used and why?
I've had plenty of luck asking questions of production teams before and usually they work hard to be accurate and only choose not to
be when it would be very difficult to film with an accurate item.
