    Hah, Scott hit the nail on the head, Sir- It's English bridle leather.

    Also, a word of warning for anyone who who might like to put together a belt that works like this one: The key to getting the end result to look good is using a leather that's quite strong and flexible, but not overly thick. If the leather is too thick, the buckle will not lie flat when worn.
