The white shirt, black vest (waistcoat) and black tie would definitely label you as a piper.
As others have suggested, I would change the tie to a stripe or a different solid color and/or lose the vest. With the vest on, don't wear a belt. Without the vest, you don't have to have a belt, but if you need to wear one (or don't feel like things look right without one), it really should be a kilt belt (1 3/4" - 2") and not a standard - or even "wide" - trousers belt.

Cause every 5 minutes someone is nagging you to get your pipes out and play them a tune or two

Nothing at all, if you're actually a piper (I am). It's my understanding, though, that non-pipers (esp. drummers) get awfully annoyed at the question: "Where're your pipes?"
I carefully avoid the "pipe band uniform" look when I'm wearing my kilt and not piping.

*** I really like the idea of going with the black sweater. Great look, super comfortable, just like the kilt.

Alright, this has gone on long enough.
There's no reason that any kilt wearer should feel that he can only wear a solid-colored tie. Flowers, stripes, paisleys, and other patterns work perfectly well with the kilt, especially with a white shirt.
Just make sure your shoes look good, and chances are that the rest of the kit will look good, too.

I'm not much on white shirts; in fact, I generally only wear them for funerals and what not. There are so many reasonably priced shirts available today (The Stafford line at JC Penny comes to mind) that a well-dressed gentleman should not limit himself to white shirts. For me, a light blue shirt is my white shirt.

Too true, here here. Ralph Lauren used to have a line called Colors, awesome array of colors to choose from

All right, though...sometimes those colors can run away with you...you can't go wrong sticking with the basics. I've always been big on blue oxford button-down collar shirts but there are some situations where a white dress shirt is really the norm and showing up in anything else will, how shall I say, create a bit of distance between you and the other guys in attendance...
I've been steering away from dark colors on the shirts lately...especially when wearing the kilt. Looks too much like you're in the Inverness Community Theatre production of Guys and Dolls.
I am, admittedly, pretty conservative in my idea of dress. I've seen some colors of shirt that just ought not to be...trendy today, maybe, but looking quite dated next year. And then there's the dreaded "matchy-matchy" look...let's not even get started on that....
