Glasgow - Back to my Home City

My Mom is going "home" first week of april and has booked a bus sight seeing tour for her and my step-father while they're there visiting. i couldn't help but to think of you! Cheers and good to see you with a little bounce in your step with 2 fine lassies!

HI Alex. Glasgow intimidates me in ways that Edinburgh does not. I tend to think of Edinburgh as a small tourist town (I've only stayed in the city center) but Glasgow is large and busy and the freeways drive me nuts. I only know the airport and Glasgow Central Station. (Is the Station Hotel open again yet??)

Central station is excellent if you want a Weatherspoon's while waiting on the train to Edinburgh or Dumfries but at some point I'd love to tour the city with you.

I do love walking about in Glasgow.

Your photos of Slanj brings back memories: they had the MOST lovely windowpane tweed kilt jacket there! Lovat green with a claret windowpane overcheck. I wanted it badly, but it was very expensive, around 500 pounds if I recall.

In the 80s I visited RG Hardie on Renfrew St, sadly gone, with Thomas Gordon & Son above.

Thanks, as always, for the photos, Alex. It is very telling seeing the window displays for Slanj and Heritage of Scotland for comparison.

The mannequins in the Slanj store front look very well put together (even the contemporary/casual display with the camo print kilt and "up yer kilt" tshirt), and they proudly display their "Made in Scotland" sign.

Whereas the mannequin outside Heritage of Scotland displays a crooked kilt with no sporran, worn with stereotypical white ghillie shirt, white hose (both of which look horrible on a white-toned mannequin form!) and ghillie brogues, and they proudly display their "99 pound kilt package" prices!

Even though I have worked in and around Glasgow all my life and not being a 'weegie', I love the city and know it and its people well. Glasgow may have its problems but its people are the friendliest in the world. I just love street pictures of Glasgow and of course it was European City of Culture in 1990, Glasgow certainly 'smiles better'

Superb pics Alex! I have a great-uncle from Paisley and currently resides there. I always enjoy visiting Glasgow - especially for the "World's" every August.
