Almost all of the days of the week that end with a "Y" are good days for wearing a kilt.
Don't look for a reason to NOT wear the kilt!

Wear the kilt by all means, but I doubt that many Scots will make a special effort to don the kilt to mark the occasion, for the simple reason that it is not a particularly Scots event.

Nor will many of the Irish in Ireland be likely to don the kilt. It's more of a diaspora thing.

St. Patrick’s Day might be a good excuse for wearing your kilt.
In Denmark where we have very, very few people with an Irish background, St. Patrick is hardly known at all. Well, it shall not prevent me from wearing my kilt on March 17 – or any other day.

Here in Huntsville the Scots and the Irish have celebrated the day together for years. When I was in the pipe band here before it folded, we always marched then we would go to Finnigans Pub and play and have a good old time. I guess here its more of a celtic holiday than just Irish.

I would say yes, certainly, why not?, because of the pan-Celtic sentiment. However, I wouldn't wear one myself on that day because I'm on the wrong side of the parade. As they say.

I didn't know one needed a reason to wear the kilt. I wear mine whether it's St. Paddy's or Cinco de Mayo or a random Tuesday.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Exactly. Kilts are not traditionally Irish attire but Scottish. However, many Irish and Welsh folk have taken to wearing the kilt as a more generic expression of "Celtitude". I'd say if you feel like wearing it, wear it!

As a Scot who is 3rd generation Irish and have a great affinity with the Irish
(when the national anthems of Scotland and Ireland are played at national events when the two countries meet, I am never sure what country has the strongest pulling power towards me), in all my travels in Ireland over the years I have never seen a kilt worn in that country, is the kilt in Ireland not totally reserved for Irish dancing events?
In Scotland you are more than likely to see men in kilts than you are in Ireland,
During the summer season particularly at weekends Scotland is abundant with kilties probably because that is the wedding season, and it is often quite possible to see a kilted gent anywhere in Scotland at any given time, the kilt certainly is not such a rare attraction as it was a few decades ago.
It would be great if the Irish wore the kilt more often but they are not into tartan the same as Scots and is it quite possible that men do not want to wear a kilt that looks more like a skirt. Here I have to aplogise to my friend Paul, who seldom posts on this forum now, but he has a solid green Irish kilt which he wore at the Drop Kick Murphy's concert in Glasgow last year with me wearing traditional tartan. I must add Paul looked great in that kilt(see my album) but as I said earlier - do men want to wear solid colours although black is the obvious exception?
