Kilts on St. Patrick's Day??
Ok, I'm not really sure where this thread should go so I stuck it here (if the mods find a more appropriate place, please, by all means, move it).
Now we all recognize that the traditional kilt as we know it is mostly a Scottish phenomenon. If I choose to wear one out on St. Patrick's Day (myself being in no way Irish, but definitely and proudly of Scottish descent), would that be an offense to the Irish? I guess what I'm asking is, would it be in bad taste to wear a kilt on this most Irish of holidays?
Edit: I just found a similar thread to this so could someone please delete this?? Ooops

As the Irish Sea is not really that much of an obstacle for either the greedy or the romantic, I conceder the opportunity to wear the kilt at any drop of the hat. Me, I'll be wearing my Gordon with my Masters polo shirt, or my Irish Saffron with my Irish cable knit sweater, depending of course on the weather. ith:

Slainte,
Not to mention the mention the fact that there is a very similar, and less practical, traditional Irish garment called a lein. It was like a mix between a kilt and a Roman tunic, with really baggy sleeves. So in reality, a kilt would be fine- especially one of an Irish variety- saffron, emerald green, Irish National, etc. So as ShawHighlander said- wear your kilt with style, laddie. I sure will be. And if any grumpy Irishman wants a rumble over it- oblige him.

And on that note, my living history group, the Renaissance Scots, are marching in the parade, so I will be in late 1600's Highland garb- and armed. So I doubt many an Irishman will want a rumble with this rather large, hairy (and occasionally ill tempered) American Highlander.

Since St. Patrick was most likely a Roman Briton who was born and lived his early life in the Strathclyde region of Scotland it seems fitting to be kilted.
Remember, the Irish first enter the story when they kidnap him!

I made some green flashes JUST so I could wear it on Sr. patricks day to work. I find it a great excuse to go to school kilted!

I'll be in my Ireland's National from USA Kilts (thank you, Rocky!), with my Academy of Irish and Celtic Studies shirt (where I take piping lessons) -- in the Phoenix St Patrick's parade.
Some of the bartenders at one of our local Irish pubs are planning to be kilted.

Well as this is X Marks the SCOT........ you do what you bl**dy well like to any day of the week. (wink, wink) Most Irish I know aren't so thin skinned to worry about it. I had someone the other day ask me if it was "some Irish day" while I was kilted. I just told him no, everyday in a kilt is a Scottish day.

I've seen many lads kilted in Ireland, many of us wear our kilt on St Patty's anyway, John Jameson was a Scot too.
