1/2 way to St. Patrick's day
So normally September 17th is the official 1/2 way to St. Patrick's Date. Which will be on a Monday this year... BUT St. Patrick's day will be on March 15th 2008 instead of March 17th next year. SOOOO... that means we can celebrate it legitimately on September 15th, which just happens to be a Saturday too.
So everyone should try to schedule a kilt night in their respective areas for Saturday September 15th. We will most definitely be having one down here in Arizona, but the location and time have still yet to be determined. Cheers everyone!

I feel better now about starting a thread about our upcoming Burns Night last week. ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
But then again the good things in life are worth planning ahead for!
Cheers

I truly love kilt nights for multiple reasons, but i've learned that with most of the people that i hang out with, the farther in advance you can plan the better. If you only give them a week, they usually have plans, so setting it out a month tends to work better.
We had a kilt night this last weekend, but we only planned it a week ahead of time. Granted we still had a good time, but we only had about 6-7 kilted members there, as opposed to the 15 or so we've been having lately. Sometimes life just happens though.
Agreed though, the good things are worth planning for!
Cheers to you!

I'll be at the Western Kentucky Highland games that day. Now I'll have another good reason to celebrate that night!

The problem I have is that most of the Sonoran Scotsmen activities seem to revolve around bars and drinking. Since I don't drink, and bars are not comfortable places for me to be (see "I don't drink"), I have a hard time justifying a two-hour drive to come down for one of these events.

OH I didn't know that you didn't drink, and didn't like bars. I would be more than happy to schedule some kind of big kilted event in the next upcoming months, and we'll do it someplace other than a bar. (there will still be drinking) but we will most likely have another Kickball Tournament in a few months, or i've always to do some kind of volunteer work as a group. When we get closer to Christmas i think it would be cool to help feed the homeless and we can do it kilted if we want, but it definitely doesn't have to involve a bar.

Mr. MacDougall,
There are other activities available in most good bars. You have darts, billiards, the chasing of saucy wenches, and eating salty fried snack foods.
These can all be done alcohol free.

All right. I may be a bit of a thick headed Irishman but what's this malarkey about St. Pats on the 15th? I seem to remember seeing a post about some church thing or other that would cause the celebration to be moved. Being a bit more heathen than church goer, I will be celebrating on the 17th. You don't celebrate the Fourth of July on the third just because it falls on Saturday and you may not have a long weekend. I say keep the church and politics out of the peoples' holidays. My apologies if any of this diatribe has violated the rules regarding religion and/or politics.

I shared your sentiments when I first heard, but because they moved it to the 15th, they also made it happen on a Saturday. I'm not positive if America or more specifically Arizona is going to recognize this change in dates or not yet, but i'm actually ok now with March 15th. I'll be able to Start celebrating on Saturday, and I'll stop Monday night some time.
A few years ago the 4th of July fell on a Sunday here in Mesa, Arizona and a few of the groups that host fireworks every year decided that they would do it on Monday instead, because it fell on a Sunday.
