If the fishing's really good and I'm hungry for some trout, then my sporran's chock full of nightcrawlers and it weighs a lot.
On those flyfishing only, catch and release streams, then my sporran weighs next to nothing since it only has a dozen or so soft hackle wets, a dozen or two dry flies, and a couple of dozen different types of nymphs.

Day wear sporran: car key in a small coin purse; fifty bucks cash, folded, no wallet; Visa & AmEx cards; card case with cards, driver's license, second form of ID, one blank cheque, and a comb.
Evening wear sporran: fifty dollars cash (mostly in fives for tips) and a comb. Ever thing else, Visa & AmEx cards, driver's license, second form of ID, one blank cheque, etc. is kept in the pocket of my doublet.
I rarely, if ever, carry my cell phone when in kilts; if somebody needs to speak to me they can leave a message on my phone and I'll call them back, it's that simple.

I think I need to take up this attitude, all except for the worms (flyfish or spin fish only, stopped bait-dunking a few years ago but may have to take it up again with my boy to teach him proper fishing techniques).

You got me curious so I weighed my stuff at work.
My keys, cell phone, and wallet weigh a total of 9 ounces.
I carry a money clip in my sporran so that brings the weight even more.
I agree it's where your sporran hangs more than its weight that makes the difference.

So you opted for a full-face sporran, I see.

As long as it's not scraping along the ground, though you could sweep the yard if it was a hair one.

I'm not sure how much it weighs, but my husband only likes to carry his wallet and keys. He'd like to carry his iPhone, but he's a little nervous that even with a hard case and screen protector, something night scrape or crack the screen. He usually hands me his iPhone. I keep meaning to figure out some way for him to feel better about having his iPhone in his sporran since it's not much better off in my purse (I do understand the worry, though). He prefers traveling light, regardless of the iPhone worry though and would probably only have those three things in his sporran at a time.

I have an issue with heavy sporrans, but typically it's the material with which they're made that bothers me the most. My grandfather had a similar problem to you and took up making sporrans that were incredibly lightweight. Most of his were fullmask, and some don't care for them because they aren't taxidermied, but again, those are way too heavy. As a dancer, I can't have a sporran slapping me in the tenders. However, most of the time I will take my keys and phone and put them with one of my partner's purses (or my wife's if she's present). Another thing I do is put my cell phone in my vest/waistcoat pocket--it's a smaller phone. My dad wears his iPhone on an exterior clip, not in his sporran. If I wear a jacket, things go in there instead of the sporran, other than the wallet.
It has been mentioned, but a LOT can indeed be helped by the positioning of the sporran. I remember showing a dancer if he'd just tighten his sporran belt a little bit he'd be so much less worried and uncomfortable dancing (and looking silly trying to hold his sporran in place).
