So, with that being said, with the kilt, I have planned to wear a long sleeve tattersal shirt with a necktie only - no tweed waistcoat and jacket, and certainly no jacket, it would simply be too hot (though I have done it before)!

    Great range...thanks again,
That sounds essentially like what I wore to this year's Taste of Scotland festival.

The neck tie is a knit tie, so decidely casual.

Taking off the belt does make a huge difference, especially in this heat.

How hot was it with the hose? I know wool breathes but it's HOT out here in NC!

Not as bad as you'd think. Normally the hose I wear are House of Cheviot, which are a 50% mernio wool blend and extremely comfortable.

The diced hose I had on, which are 100% wool, are not quite as comfortable, but don't really bother me. Perhaps I just have a high tolerance for that sort of thing. Though at the end of the (very hot) day, when I took them off, my legs did breathe a sigh of relief!

PS - when I hand wash the wool hose, I do throw in a bit of conditioner, which helps keep them soft.

Blended wool does make a difference, as long as its not polyester I suppose it is a lot better.

Always good to see some of the pictures that come up on here, and they have been a hug part in helping me to make up my mind that what has seemed to work to me when I have put it on must not be too bad since they are generally similar to what I see.
I'll be headed to the Dayton Celtic Festival this weekend as well; and naturally will be kilted. However, my intended way of dressing will be anything but traditional as I am attempting to convert a friend of mine to kilts and am planning to keep things as comfortable and familiar for him as possible.

No, the House of Cheviot hose are about 50% merino wool and the rest a blend of acrylic, nylon, and lycra (in order from highest to lowest percentage). No polyester to be found! :-)

I don't know if it's possible to find anywhere else, but we have "wool" available in NZ which is part merino and part possum. I believe there is also one blend available which is part alpaca as well! (no synthetic fibres at all)

It is lovely and soft, and I had these hose made up in it:

    Cheers!

    Michael,

Part possum? Really?! That is very intriguing. I thought they were only good for road kill! Hahaha, just kidding!

    Cheers,
