10/110z wool vs. PV for summer wear
Anyone have experience with both PV and 10/11oz wool?
Does the wool hold that 'kilt' shape better than PV?

What I have learned from other posts here, that weight is rarely used for a man's kilt. It's usually just for dancers' kilts, due to the physical demands of dancing. Thirteen ounce might be a better choice.
I shall know better by the Fall, as I have recently gotten one!

Well I`'ve made kilts out of booth the big diferene is the breaths a bit better but I wear pv allthe time and I have to say I never have any problems with the heat I mainly wear kilts between 8-10yrds depending on the sett size. Now is the 11oz wool a loose weave as it may not hold its shape well , I find the PV always hold it shape, are you making thre kilt, or having it made for you?

I have 2 kilts each in these materials:
* the standard Marton Mills polyester-viscose
* a 10-11 ounce wool-polyester blend. One of these is from Fraser and Kirkbright, and I don't know the weaver of the other material.
Upshot is that there's no discernable difference. They both work well, they seem to have similar degrees of "toughness", the swing is comparable and so on. From a "make a kilt" standpoint, they're not appreciably different. I've hand-sewn an "8-yard" kilt out of 11 ounce 100% wool and it was a bit nicer than the blends but not hugely so.
They're different from 13 ounce and 16 ounce wool, so don't expect them to be the same. Some people revolt at the idea of the lighter weight fabrics being made into a kilt. Personally, I wear mine all the time, and have the material for another one sitting at home waiting to get made into a grand 6-yard Lindsay tartan casual kilt. For formal occasions I wear one of my two 13 ounce tartan kilts, but I live in my lighter weights kilts day in and day out. I've had the PV MacNaughton kilt for two years, worn it on an average once a week and it's still going strong, though it's starting to show a bit of pilling under the sporran. However, the pilling issue with MM poly-viscose is nothing compared to the pilling issue with acrylic fabrics.

I had an 11 oz kilt once, does perform well in the heat. Poly blends perform well in the heat. I think the wool holds a pleat better. You can throw your poly blend in the wash, not the wool of course. I have two poly blends for the Fl heat, and they are great for that.
kilt hose are actually what makes you the warmest. In my opinion.

i think the PV would be better but it doesn't always hold a pleat.

I know Nick I have never had a problem with the pleats on my pleats they always stay in place f I sit on them for long period of time yeah they wrinkle but they come right out.How deep are you pleats o your your kilt.
I know for a fact that when I pleatd up the Campbell acient tartan I did it to sett and it was approximatly 6"deep each pleat with a 1" reveal. But my Maple Leaf tartan the pleats are 3.5 deep.

I have an 8 yd. traditional kilt in 11 oz. tartan from Strathmore Woolens - the only weight my tartan was available in without doing the custom order thing. I know most here disparage men's kilts in this weight, but when I wore it the other day to our local Irish Fest in 85+degree heat, I loved it!
It's a tight, twill-woven worsted wool, and any creases fall right out after a little while hanging....

i think my pleats are like 1 inch ish. they'll stay in place if i sit on them as well but they get all ruffled and wrinkled.

If their about an inch deep that can happen. I prefer to make my kilt wife some depth to the pleats depending on the tartan size of course.
