The jacket and vest look great. I like the colour combination
I'm curious about your own views of the flaps on the lower vest pockets. Are you keeping those or removing them when you do your alterations?
I have a similar jacket and vest in blue tweed but I really am unsure about those vest pocket flaps. . I don't know whether I like them or not and have seriously considered taking my scissors to them

I kind of like the pocket flaps. I have them on my waistcoat as well. I wasn't sure about them at first, but they add a certain "flare". Since I am pretty conservative (as much as one can be in a kilt), I like the more stylized/unique look.

Tobus, you've put together a fantastic look with your new goodies. There is nothing cookie cutter about it, while still looking very proper and traditional. The details are really what makes it; even though no-one may ever know, a sharp sgian dubh in invaluable. The jacket, waistcoat, and pocket watch chain are also spot on.
You know what really completes this outfit in my (biased) eye? The spats
