I use to belong to Dr. Whatcom's Sherlockian Society here in Bellingham. It was affiliated with The Sound of the Baskervilles here in the greater Puget Sound region (Dr. Whatcom's has been defunct for sometime). The Sound of the Baskervilles is a scion society of BSI and I've been entertaining the idea of joining up with them.

Re: Kilts in new Sherlock Holmes
Having read the entire canon several times and having watched a lot of folks try poorly to bring Holmes up to date (why on earth would anyone want to do that?) my absolute favourite portrayal was by Jeremy Brett in the television series. Vive Jeremy!

Re: Kilts in new Sherlock Holmes
Cool! Robert Downey Jr. is great actor indeed, with a remarkable come-back too, but as for playing Sherlock Holmes, he is definitely no Jeremy Brett - my favourite! However, Downey displays quite an impressive portrayal of the master sleuth, in his own, unique "Downey-kind-of-way," which I admire.
I am looking forward to seeing the movie.
Cordially,

Re: Kilts in new Sherlock Holmes
Don't forget that one actor who portrayed Mr. Holmes was a "kiltie" -- Basil Rathbone of the Liverpool Scottish:

Read the story of Rathbone's service in the First World War at:

... and if Creagdhubh and Bill White agree, well then - there you have it you might say; in "black and white!"

Re: Kilts in new Sherlock Holmes
I couldn't get through the first half hour of the first Downey film..I think I will give this one a miss too (though Stephen Fry as Mycroft is tempting..). I'm really excited for Steven Moffat's next instalment of "Sherlock". New Year's day can't come soon enough!
Congrats on the shilling SFCRick!
