Sorry, I missed that. Regardless, like I said, it looks wonderful. Wear it in good health!

LOL to the black spot! Jimmy, Jim, Jim, Jim....
Regarding the buttons, they are simply the Dritz brand self covered button blanks that you can buy at any fabric/sewing store. That being said, I could get the wooden or bone forms and make some historic styled ones...or better yet, how about Death's Head buttons??

Re: DIY Tartan Waistcoat - US Army Tartan
Very nice Jeff!
Regarding the buttons, I'm looking forward to talking more about them this weekend. I have a new waistcoat as well, with square metal buttons and think the self colored ones would be a bit more versatile, allowing it to be worn with a tweed day wear jacket as well as with metal buttoned evening wear. My other option is to use interchangeable buttons, which I also know nothing about!
See ya Saturday,
Brooke

Really nice work! I'm not sure I'd attempt a tartan waistcoat for myself. I can see a million ways to get headaches and frustration using tartan.

You have done an awesome job. The use of the rosettes, I have never seen before on a kilt is unique, I like it.
I am an Army Vet - MP, and will be purchasing a kilt in the near future in the Army tartan and the use of the rosette would bee an interesting look.
Maybe in black with branch insignia, crossed pistols, in the middle?
I have visual in mind, thanks for some inspiration.

Glad you like them David...and welcome to the forum! I notice you appear to be fairly new around here! I'm still active duty Army, myself...and proudly wear the US Army Tartan (even if it is "unofficial"). Are you a member of SAMS? If not, you should keep your eyes out for a SAMS booth at your local highland games!

Re: DIY Tartan Waistcoat - US Army Tartan
That is a fantastic waistcoat.
I'm thinking of making me a tartan waitcoat too and I have a question maybe you can help me with. What is the purpose of making the vertical seams on the front of the waistcoat? I see that most waistcoats have them, but I can't understand why they are there. I see that your waistcoat also have these seams in the back.
Does it have anything to do with shaping the waistcoat to the body shape? couldn't that been done with the seams in the side of the waistcoat?
Skål!
