Re: Thoughts on hose color etc.
I think that most folks would do best to own five pairs of hose:
Lovat blue
Lovat green
Bottle green
Claret/ dark red
Argyle or diced hose for formal wear
I have several pairs of flashes/garters in assorted colors, but I tend to wear red most of the time.
Cordially,
David

Good point. The hose I do have that I wear the most are on the list. The hose I don't wear often, aren't.
Likewise with flashes, I have read over and over that if i have one pair bright red and one pair bright blue, I have all the flashes I need.
Thansk David.

What tabs/flashes will you be wearing?
If I had a Black Watch kilt, especially if it were in Ancient or Muted colours, I would be very much tempted to follow the example of this man
and get a pair of scarlet and yellow tartan hose!
I also very much like the look of red & black and red & white diced hose with Black Watch kilts.
For plain hose, I would like the Shooting Socks that are Claret with a mustard & claret diced top, or red hose.

Doh, so close! It's more of a brick red, but there you go.

Quite right, Sandy. Any colour will do, with the exception of black, ecru, or white. I think tartan red, brick red, or claret would look especially smart with the dark green of the 42nd tartan.

If you would like to see a number of options with Black Watch one after the other take a look at this thread.

Same here. I purchased flashes and garter ties in many different colours from House of Cheviot and Lochcarron, however, I almost always grab the colour red.

I currently own every colour in the House of Cheviot Chessboard hose, thanks to Chris at Dunadd, and love them dearly! The dusty pink/purple colour goes quite nicely with my Macpherson hunting tartan, as do the other colours with other Macpherson tartans!

Re: Thoughts on hose color etc.
Ive always wondered why white hose was sort of a no no in the kilt world. Would someone be so kind to clear that up for me?
