I don't use soccer socks, but I have used rugby socks. They are often heavier weight go just fine in a casual look. Last time I used a gold pair that picked up the yellow-gold stripe in my Galloway Hunting muted. Often, rugby socks have a heavier foot sewn into the body of the sock for better cushion.

It is all a matter of personal taste.
I wear soccer socks or rugby socks or kilt hose depending on the occasion.
I prefer soccer socks in dark colours such as navy blue or black. Some soccer socks are self supporting. Others are long enough to be folded over at the top for wearing with garters.

    I ordered socks from here:

    http://www.happyfeetsockcompany.com/...o/?k=:6:234817

You can have a range of colours with different turnovers etc. at a very reasonable price. The feet are pure cotton and the socks are elasticated at the right points making them very comfortable to wear on long tours.
