I have a little trick that helps keep the pleats nice and flat preventing wrinkles. I move the seat way back before getting in. Sweep the pleats as best I can. Then before I move the seat forward to comfortable position, I slide my bum all the way to the edge of the seat so that my lower back is almost resting against the seat edge. Any creases or unnatural folds fall out as the pleats drape down toward the floor. Then I carefully slide my bum back into the seat and the pleats slide back into their natural position and are locked there so long as you remain in the seat. This trick works best on leather seats and I usually only do it for longer trips. It's a little too tedious to do every time I get into the car.

Heavier material is definitely better. The first time I wore my 10yd, 15oz Dalgliesh (deep knife pleats), I drove two hours each way, and then sat most of the day at a family gathering in 85 degree heat outdoors. When I took it off at the end of the day, I was surprised how few wrinkles there were, and they fell out by the next morning.

My heirloom ex-military kilt doesn't seem to crease or wrinkle at all. i sweep the pleats, obviously but all day sitting or driving or anything else shows no wrinkles when I take it off. It's wool, 8 yards and very heavy but the actual weight and weave are uncertain. Doug at "All Things Tartan" suggested it might be 22 ounce blanketweave; I'd never heard of this but I keep an open mind! Perhaps some of the military folks or kiltmakers here might have a suggestion.

My "Heritage of Scotland" PV c=does crease and wrinkle but, so far, they seem to drop out when hung up overnight.
    Regards, Sav.
