best wool kilt for driving/sitting?

Please refresh my memory: for extended drives/sitting while kilted, is it the weight of the KILT (i.e. 8 yards versus 5 yards) or the weight of the MATERIAL (16 oz versus 13) that resists wrinkles best?

I've found that my heavier weight wools (15-16oz) resist wrinkling far better than lighter weight material. That doesn't mean, however, that you should ignore sweeping the pleats when you sit, for example.

heavier weight is more resistent to wrinkles. But definately sweep the pleats either way.

All kilt wool wrinkles, however the heavier the weight of the material the quicker the wrinkes fall out. As all the others have said "sweep your pleats"

I've driven across country in multiple kilts. My best is a 16oz four yard box pleat (from Matt Newsome). Less weight in the pleats. Easy to "sweep". Resists serious wrinkles. Just hang overnight and it's ready for the next day.

Thank you gentlemen! I THOUGHT it was the weight of the material (not the amount), but wasn't sure. Have been pondering getting a more "go to" kilt for casual use, and indeed was looking at the 4-yard box pleated as well as the 5 yard knife-pleated options out there. I will continue browsing/dreaming/saving toward my goal! (at least half the fun, the anticipation, yes?) Yes, I do sweep the pleats.... thanks for including these reminders, some may not have thought of it.

Best kilt for sitting or driving is a Kingussie pleated one, 100% wool 16 oz cloth is AAA rated for comfort and ease of kilt wearing, followed by a 4 yard box pleat Kilt ( wool & 16oz) and then the knife pleated-its the sweeping and bunching of the knife pleated that puts it in 3rd place for sitting and driving test. But they are all good to wear so you don't have to restrict yourself to just one style of pleating you can build up a wardrobe over time with different pleating styles and yardage of cloth.

My 16oz box-pleated kilt from Keltoi is the most comfortable kilt I have to drive in - don't have to sweep multiple times to get it right and you don't feel like you are sitting on a lump of cloth. Will it wrinkle on a long drive? Sure, but hang it and the wrinkles will fall out.

This is my experience too. My 13 oz knife pleat wrinkles some, my 16 oz knife pleat a bit less but my Keltoi 16 oz Strome military box pleat pretty much not at all.

I often use a bath towel - wrap it around your pleats, sit and swivel into place. Works with all kilts.....
