I am also a full time kilt wearer, except at work. As a consultant, I have to make the conversation about the problem, not about what I am wearing. Otherwise, I'm pretty much kilted. I wear Davidson, USMC, or universal kits, mostly tartan, but I have a few solid, traditional wool, and a few contemporary style kilts. Mostly positive comments when I went kilted full time. My oldest daughter's father-in-law said it was a mid-life crisis. My wife (God bless her!) said "If it's a mid-life crisis, it's a lot simpler and cheaper than a little red sportscar and a mistress."

Ditto. I wear one most days. It depends on the job site and the contract I'm working on. Just keep it clean, professional, and tasteful, and most people won't have a problem. Sure you may get a snarky remark or two from random people. Learn to take it in stride and always be courteous. It helps and leaves a lasting impression on others.

I have been a full time kilt wearer for over a year now. I wear mostly sport kilts (except for on special days like Tartan Day and St. Andrews Day)

I have the following that I wear mostly. I wear them by whatever I feel like that Morning just like I did the former bifurcated garments:

St. Andrews USA
California State
Braveheart (Sportkilt's version)
Jolly Roger (Sportkilt's version)
US Air Force
MacDonald

I will wear a few that I have made as well.

I save my MacAlister Dress for those special days!

Except when I'm at work, I'm generally kilted. I currently have two utility kilts, two PV kilts and one wool kilt, with two more wool tartans in the works.
If I didn't work at a school, and have to climb an occasional ladder while there, I'd probably try to get away with wearing kilts at work as well.

I have been wearing kilts full time for the last 6 months. I own 9 kilts at this time with a couple more to be added by years end. I have had heard nothing but good comments when I started and now, no one pays me any mind about it. It's now accepted as normal for me. I wear everything from nice t-shirts, three button oxford types, and button down shirts with ties (when it comes to production meetings and such). I have a nylon sporran from Stillwater Kilts all the way to a formal one. Most of the time I wear my nylon sporran as it holds the cellphone, wallet, and keys with ease.

If you're fortunate enough to be in a place in your life that allows you to wear whatever you want, whenever you want, I say go for it. I've been wearing a kilt full time for a bit less than a year now and I'm happy as can be. With me being me, I don't think anyone who knows me was particularly surprised. I have an Isle of Skye and Gordon Dress, and another 10 or 12 solids in various fabrics. What I wear depends on my mood, and how nice I have to look. I have a ripstop Multicam rev-k that's my absolute favorite because it's so light and comfy to wear. For work - weddings, bridal shows, client meetings - I have a few dressy solid kilts, or my IoS if I'm feeling extra fancy.

My experiences have been overwhelmingly positive. When I first started wearing a kilt to shoot weddings I was a bit worried about how clients, and their families and guests, would react. I'm sure there's always some boring grouch who disapproves but all the compliments I get and conversations I have with people is really fantastic, and our clients - the bride and groom - really love it.

Over three years full time kilted. 32 tartan kilts and 32 Utilikilts plus accessories needed for the tartans. Wear whatever you like with them - your picture looks keen!
For daily wear, USAK PV Casuals and semi-traditionals are durable and machine wash and will save a bunch of loot and/or work in cleaning. It has to be quite a special occasion for me to use the few wool kilts I own.
I second the "not a costume look"- unless it is a costume event.
I normally wear the same kilt 4 days straight, then toss it in the wash and pick out the next one. I try to keep in mind what clean shirts and socks I have ready in picking the next kilt. Some tartans want to use the same colors so I avoid using these back to back. Having 8 of any color socks or shirts can overload your closet - fast.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Outside of my work uniform I have been kilted full-time for about 4 months now after gradually working into it for the last 2 years. I've got 7 kilts which are 3 tartan and 4 utility kilts. I usually wear a t-shirt but have started to move to polo shirts. I'll probably buy dressier shirts as I replace my t-shirts (about 30 of them). For shoes I have boots, athletic shoes and black Skechers. Various color over the calf tube socks and a couple pairs of kilt socks. Due to the heat I generally don't wear the kilts socks in the summer.

Everyone that knows me has seen me in a kilt enoough that its usually a non-issue. I used to notice strangers looking at me and found the reactions amusing but I've gotten so I don't notice it much anymore.

If your interested in pictures I have some posted at http://www.tumblr.com/blog/kiltedmike

If you want to go full time, do it. I've made it known that I will probably never been seen in a pair of pants (or shorts) again.

Just converted over to wearing my kilts about 3/4 of the time....sadly there are still life and work based events where I cannot be kilted.

Overall, the reception has been a very good one, and among my friends it was absolutely NO surprise to see me rocking the kilts more frequently.

So far the kilt collection includes:

3 Utilikilts (New Standard, Mocker and Survival)
2 PV (solid black and Confederate Memorial)
I have a PV Thompson Hunting on it's way from Germany and am awaiting the arrival of the "Tartan Which Shall Not Be Named" that will be going off to Matt when it arrives so he can do his magic.

I say go for it! You won't regret it.
I'm only off-kilter when my kilt is off.

"I'll take a Scot on the rocks. *wink* " <--- by far the best pick-up line I have ever heard
