Just to clarify. Chester Nez was the last of the first group of 29 code talkers to pass on. They were the first group. Men who served in subsequent groups still live. Code Talker Sidney Bedoni walked on last week. He was with one of the later groups of Navajo Code Talkers.
For sports fans, here's an aside on Chester Nez, posted on the Navajo Code Talker FB page, "In 2004 he [Chester Nez] broke the Curse of the Bambino when he threw out a pitch for the Boston Red Sox and blessed the team. That year they won the World Series for the first time since trading Babe Ruth to the Yankees, the first time in 86 years!!! The Red Sox sent a beautiful all-white-flower bouquet to Chester's funeral. The card read: The Boston Red Sox Thank You."
Remember, Jacoby Ellsbury, the only Navajo Major League Baseball Player was playing for the Red Sox back then.
