A true WW-II hero. God bless him, and all his comrades.

Sad day on the Rez when Chester walked on. Does bring to mind that many Navajo men fought in Europe too. One lost friend was first in on D-Day as a combat engineer. Because he was "Chief" they put him out front to scout through the fierce fighting in the hedgerows. Sadly, he nursed a resentment because the Code Talkers got recognition and he and his European Theater Navajos did not. Which was fiercer fighting - Europe or the Pacific? They were all brave men who served a country that didn't even allow them to vote at that time.

May God give his family peace and comfort in their loss. Truly the Navajo code talkers and all Native Americans who served our country were the best part of the "greatest generation". Thank you for giving your lives to all those who serve.

Yes the Greatest Generation is passing away. Honoured are we who are old enough to have known many of these men personally.

I lost my father in law, an Army officer in the South Pacific in WWII, just a couple years ago. My stepfather, who was at Anzio, is still with us, in good health and sharp as ever.

Around 20 years ago, at a local restaurant here in Tustin (California), my wife and small son and I began noticing elderly couples heading for a banquet room in the rear of the restaurant, a fairly large gathering. I began noticing that the men were wearing satin jackets with embroidery on the back and Overseas Caps. Then I started reading what was on the back of their jackets- they were Navajo Code Talkers! What an honour just to be in the same building as these men. (Yes I did go back and take a discreet peek into their banquet room.)

To think that they're all gone... what a loss to America.
