If I may?
Jock is absolutely fine! Thank you so much for caring enough about him to ask. As I sit at his desk now, I note a wee ditty that he scribbled on the corner of the blotter at some time or other, that explains the situation well.
"They seek him here. They seek him there,
Those Xmarkers seek him everywhere.
Is he out for a fish? Is he out for a shot?
That darned elusive Jock the Scot!
The answers to both questions is, yes!
As far as I am aware, Jock has no issues with any of the website members, so please try not to make any assumptions there. He will be back before long I expect.
Mrs. Jock.

Patrick from Glasgow (Has anyone heard from Jock Scot Lately)
Hi the tartan terrors, Sorry the Rabble.
I followed the discourse between you all and Patrick, I'm afraid you will never convince the lad that he is out of step when it comes to his beloved "Gillie Shirt".
Every Kilt shop that I have been into in central Scotland sells them or has them on display is some manner or other.
Most young lads in Scotland see them as an accessory for the Kilt that is less stuffy and old fashioned than the dress shirt tie etc. that that their Fathers and Grandfathers will wear.
Whether it is traditional or the correct way to dress is not even in their train of thought due to the lads seeing so many advertisements for them and others wearing them.
In that respect, Patrick may well be correct in his beliefs of the future of traditional Kilt wear.
You will probably find that he has accumulated is outfit one piece at a time from various sources and never had the expertise off, or a traditional kilt makers advice on what to wear, and now is entrenched in his ways, only in time and with experience will his Knowledge improve.
10 years down the line you will probably find him on this site giving the same advice as yourselves.
PS, with my greying beard, bald head and being 54, I am truly on the side of being more traditional.

Nice to hear from you Jock. I certainly do miss your posts, as you are one of the very few who can provide, humor, entertaining, compliments that you have to think it they actually are compliments, or a politely phrased criticism, of course they are always constructive, and most of all knowledge. Thanks for checking in and being Jock...

It’s also possible he left because he felt people were picking on him.
This thread was originally about Jock and somehow it’s just become an opportunity to poke fun at a member who isn’t even on the forum anymore.
Jock may not have liked Patrick’s choice of accessories but he was never cruel about it. As Collin points out, Jock’s criticisms are always meant to be constructive.

That's true, and it wasn't my intention to hijack the thread...I just didn't want to start a new one. To be clear however, I was genuinely interested in what happened to both Jock AND Patrick. It wasn't my intention to make fun of him, but his situation in Glasgow I did have a little fun with, but it wasn't directed at Patrick. Many have stated they are endangered by wearing the kilt in Glasgow.
I'm also aware that Patrick and Jock exchanged a few words, but as I recall they were on good terms later.

Fair enough. I noticed he wasn’t posting a while back and it states under his avatar “this member has chosen not to remain active.” I felt that in some of his last threads there were some (not you and definitely not Jock) who felt it was more fun to tease him than offer genuine advice or opinions. Jock and him did have some words occasionally but he seemed to genuinely respect jock’s opinion and jock has always given frank, honest, advice even if it’s not what some might like to hear.

There are a large number of very Scottish phrases that would apply to that young man, but I shall not print them as I don't fancy being put into the naughty corner. On a more positive note I hope he does come back when he has learned to listen to people with much more knowledge and decorum than he was ever able to demonstrate.
End of controlled rant.
P.S. I thought Jock was very controlled in his dealings with the young gentleman and look forward to his return when the weather gets too bad to enjoy his other pursuits.

Perhaps we could leave Patrick out of this thread? He chose to leave us for his own reasons.

Gillie Shirt

Hi the Rabble,
I was having a wee dram last night and thinking about the origin of the "Gillie Shirt", with regards to how it is now available in every / most Kilt Shops.
also when was the first time I could recall seeing one.
After the second glass the mists of time parted,(briefly) and I recalled the Corries on TV in the late 70's with something like it and a sleeveless tunic.
then the light bulb came on and I recalled a book I once owned called "so you are going to wear the Kilt", (again from the 70's) yes a picture is emerging !!
so scouring the internet I find on E Bay a Copy, I will attach a snip from the book. if I can it described a "Colonial" shirt and a "Peitean" jerkin suitable for use in warm weather.
Has anyone ells seen this before.
its the closest I have found to the Gillie Shirt. (I still, will not be getting one).
