The cuffs are hand knit, and made by my wife. The sock is machine knit, and the same sock you see used on our Lewis hose. They are attached.
My wife is working with another knitting friend of ours to create a line of custom hand-knit hose tops that will be attached to a sock in the color of your choice. There will be four cuff styles available, and a multitude of colors from which to choose. This is one of the four styles.
Information will be available on the museum's gift shop site as soon as the line is ready to launch, and you bet you'll read about it here, too.

Summer heat casual
Antarctic tartan (the name is good for feeling a couple degrees cooler) sewn up by Kathy Lare. Stillwater Kilts black leather Nightstalker sporran. Teva sandals.

Here is what I wore today
my Black Stewart Semi Traditional kilt from USA Kilts, my Stewart Clan Crest Shirt, garter ties and Ferguson Britt sporran from the Scottish Tartan Museum paired up with the Argyll top hose from Redshanks Scotland, the belt is one I made myself.

Here's a couple of me last weekend when my fiancee and I hiked around Estes Park:
I'm VERY casual here, as I'm still waiting on my new sporran in the mail and just wanted the comfort of the kilt for hiking.
