The kilt is the finest national dress in the world and should be preserved as such. Slainte.
Got it...right on!

You'd see me in that manner of dress Matt! I feel like a 'lone breed' at many a Highland games and gatherings here in the States.

I think perhaps this will work better for Kinloch Anderson kilts.

I can assure you that it is not a Lindsay tie. Mixing different clan accoutrements is a major no-no up here.

It's interesting that the only times I can recall pipe bands mixing tartans have been actual Highlanders, as here with the Isle of Skye Pipe Band. I don't mean the Drum Major, but the pipers, who are wearing two different tartans in their kilts, and plaids:
and in various Army regiments.
The Black Watch and Scots Guards pipers wear Black Watch tartan bagcovers but Royal Stuart kilts etc. The situation was most complex in The Highlanders where three different tartans were represented (Erracht Cameron kilts and plaids, Gordon bagcovers, and MacKenzie Seaforth drone ribbons) :
(The book is titled Queens Own Highlanders but the cover shows a piper of The Highlanders.)

We know for obvious reasons you don't wear the kilt in another clan's tartan, and that mixing tartans is a (at least modern, and that's what counts in this thread, right?) no-no, but on non-kilted occasions would you ever wear a tie or scarf or carry a handkerchief in another tartan? And if so, how did you choose those particular tartans?
(I won't be offended if you've a one-word answer to this question. )
