Jerry says his kilts are sized fully sinched in. All my SWKs are 38's, and though they aren't fully closed, they're not fully stretched either. Given my current weight loss regimen, the 38's should eventually end up at their lowest position.

I'd say "inexpensive" kilts (I'm sure you meant). SWK are well made and worth the price.

As BLAZN mentioned above...seems like it the stated size when you're on the last notch on the left side strap. I take and order a thirty six from Stillwater and I'm on the last notch...and, frankly, I call myself a rather "liberal" 36...I usually am a snotch (as opposed to a "notch") larger. A 36 in a USAK casual fits me right on as does a 36 on my new one from Tartanweb. Nice thing about Stillwater is that you can exchange them with no hassles and rather quickly. Be sure to measure at your natural waist, though...and no fudging...guys always add round their height up to the next nearest inch, still say they're the same weight that they were the day they got married and the pants manufacturers cheat in their waist sizes to soothe the male ego. When in doubt, have someone else do the measuring!

Thumbs up A second reply to the SWK thread.

As I mentioned, I have the solid black SWK. I am 5'8" and like the kilt at top of knee cap height. I took my kilt to a tailoress (lady tailor) and said,"Do not cut the material but make it 21.5 inches." She did a great job for $14.00 and that meas I have spent 44 plus 14 (58$) for a really nice kilt.

I ordered two SWK before the holiday season (my first real tartans truth be told) and have been nothing but impressed. The shipping was lighting fast (three days I think) and the quality for the price is fantastic. I have a nightstalker tartan casual that is quite nice and a Royal Stewart that is my "Christmas Kilt" and will continue to be. I wore it to my Gf's holiday party and was pleasantly surprised to see her senior partner in a plaid jacket of the same Tartan. He and I became instant friends and he still asks about me when he sees her around the office.

I am short of stature (five foot six or seven depending on the tape) and I took mine to a tailor down the block. She charged me 20 dollars a kilt for hemming, and I considered it cheap considering the prices of NYC.

I can only recommend these kilts as a formal but economical compromise. They are plenty warm, plenty "swishy" if you know what I mean and they stand up to a daily commute and subways well.

I only wish that there were more tartans available, 'cause at 100 per kilt all in I would "collect them all."

    Merry Christmas Y'all

I have searched the SWK website to no avail - is the stated waist size the fully closed size or the loosest setting?
Also, the website says to follow their measuring instructions, but do you think I can find them? NOT
So if anyone here can help, I would be quite grateful.

From what I remember, sizing is at the tightest. My custom made kilts are all 45 to 46, and the Stillwaters are a good fit in size 44

I can echo all of the sentiment for SWK here. When mine arrived it was FAR nicer than I expected. The material is very nice (if a bit light), and the construction is excellent!

With regards to sizing - they are definately sized big. My 46" SWK is too big for me on the tightest loop, and my custom made kilt was made for a 46.5" waist and fits perfectly with the buckle at half way. I would have been better with a 44 SWK. So I would say buy the size below your measurement.

I'll echo everyone here. I usually wear a 42" waist (My USAKs are 42s, hand sewn is a 42, and the hand sewn I have on order from Matt is being made at 42"... and the rest" But, I found when I bought my first SWK (Nighstalker standard) that it fit at the tightest notch. So, the next two I ordered (Wallace Economy and a Heavyweight Saffron) were both in a 40 and they're perfect.)
