Check out clanskene.org. Click on their 'gatherings' link and scroll down the date list till you see July 12-15 Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. It has the events program and even ticket prices. You may be able to find links to campgrounds and such.

Whenever I accessed that page through clanskene.org, it still said clanskene.org on the address bar. I didn't know any other way to get there.

Can anyone suggest campgrounds coming from the Atlanta direction? I have checked and the KOA at Franklin is booked for that weekend. I have but a humble pop up. I don 't mind a drive into town to catch the shuttles? I can imagine the outlying areas will be full as well.

Camping in Franklin would still have you 2 1/2 or 3 hours from games. There are tons of campgrounds around Asheville, Lenoir, Morganton, Boone, and some National and State parks and forests that are a lot closer to the games, but they do tend to fill up fast.

    Warhoover,

Are you going to bring a camper/rv or are you going to be tent camping?

My Dad has the names of some of the camping areas in that area.
I will get them for you. There is one real close to the games that
    has full camper/ rv hookups.

I meant Boone, I had Franklin on the brain from another subject.

I will be bringing a Colemn Popup. Seems more and more "RV resorts/campgrounds" are excluding Pop ups now. Personally I would be comfortable with my hiking tent and fleece blanket. But the wife has her needs and I won't invest in an third wheel or one of those "hotels on wheels".

The Grandfather Games are awesome. To answer a few questions: there is no shuttle from Charlotte, which is about 2-1/2 hours away. There is camping in the area, and you might find camping and other logding by looking at the HighCountyHost website. I believe it is highcountryhost.com. The trip is well worth the effort, as this is one of the largest, if not the largest gathering of clans and highland games in this country. The weather can range from the low 40's to the high 70's, all during the course of the day, with clouds and downpours and bright skies all common during that course.

From Salisbury, on a good day without traffic hassles, it's about an hour and a half or a little more.
