I've never heard of "official" clan stones either. I personally find that topaz/cairngorm goes with everything.

Add me to the list of those who've never herd of official stones. My plaid brooch has an amethyst. There's no purple in my tartan, but I like how it portrays a thistle head.

Whoever told you there is an "official" clan stone has rocks in his head.

I've been involved in my primary clan association for 8 years, now, and joined another a couple of years later. In addition, I host a clan tent at about 4 Scottish events a year and see other clan representatives all the time. In all that time, I've not heard of a clan stone before. I'm not saying they don't exist, but at this point, I would hazard that it is a vendor's ploy to sell.

I usually try to maintain a hard head and not get involved in astrology, and other non scientific stuff - but I keep on finding that there are coincidences - my birth sign Aries is associated with the purple form of amethyst, it is made up of layers of alternating left and right turned molecules - I am quite ambidextrous.
What is the only piece of jewelry I have with 'real' stones in? A ring set with pale but definitely purple amethysts. It is quite pretty with a base of gold and then a narrower strip of silver through which the amethysts can be seen. I knew nothing about its chemical make up or crystalline properties when I bought it.
If you have a choice, I suggest that you select a stone, crystal or mineral which resonates with you - or has some association for you - even if it just on 'Ooo that's nice' reaction - you might find out that there are connections.

The only clan stones are under the kilt. The stone or stones, if any worn on the sgian dubh or pins are strictly the whim of the wearer.
