Last time someone made some stupid snide comment to me, my dad said "Leave us alone. You're no better than us just because you're straight and we're Gaelic!" We ended up having drinks with them. Gods bless good parents.

Sounds like if your mom met my mom, they'd rule the world. We'll have to make the world safe for democracy and make sure that never meeting never happens.
Mine would have done the same or worse. She retired, I think, from acting and became a deputy.
I can remember a halloween when I was thirteen. She stopped the car to talk to me and an egg hit the car, some splattered on her. She told me to jump on the running board, of a VW beetle, and she took off after them across a school play ground. She chased them across the field, the diamond, across a street and almost into the woods.

You'd better upgrade your Mom's Christmas gift this year!
Ahh yes, the good ol' American One Finger Blessing; took me months to remember it - against the ancient British /Australian "Two Coffees" Blessing ( I kept using it on U.S. freeways, until I saw the puzzled looks....had to get rid of that extra finger, I will repent-eventually- but I still have more driving to do..)

My mom is pretty much the same way... a classy woman normally, but when you tick her off, LOOK OUT.

Sure sounds like an appropriate sign for the common two word response to an insult. Sign language guarantees the message is received in a noisy environment.
Give her a hug for me

Mothers. You have to love them.
My mother won't even swear until she's three stages beyond "well and truly p***ed off" - I can't even imagine her giving the finger to anyone.
But then again, before last night I bet you would have said the same thing.
