Plenty of Celts in Brittany. I've that Gordon/Norman blood too. Check out all the French/Celtic tartans in Ham's gallery. There are even kiltmakers in France. I didn't save the link but perhaps Ham can enlighten us.

    Not to worry. Kilt on.

I firmly believe that you are what you celebrate, regardless of blood heritage. Descendent wise I have Scottish and Native blood..( the Wagner name comes from a step dad that adopted me ) but when someone asks me about heritage I simply tell them Canadian, and then tell them that I wear kilts because I enjoy them rather then out of a feeling of historical duty.
Not trying to stir the pot here folks, just my opinion. Everyone is valid in whatever their feelings of heritage and follow there of as far as that goes.

Well, I like the way this thread is turning out!

I certainly had no intention of intoning any racism, that's for sure. My only hope was that folks not become fixated on the Celtic angle on things, however prominent it might be. You all seem to have picked up on that and you celebrate all of your various backgrounds in one big melting pot, which is what I had hoped too!

As I said in my opening post, being Scots to me is as much about how I live my life as any bloodline. I particularly like to think my house is always open and hospitable and that I keep a look out for my neighbours' welfare as well. Those things mean as much to me as my Norman/Celtic ancestry.

    Cheers

I'm of Gaulic and Gaelic heritage, with a Norman (via Quebec) surname and a mom who was a MacDonald. Indeed, Somerled, the grandfather of the progenitor of Clan Donald, sired what would become the Donald line with a Norse wife. Consider a bit further back when Celts reigned as the superpower in Europe...prior to the might of Rome, 'The Celts' were as prevalent in Gaul (France) and most of the rest of mainland Europe as they ever were in the British Isles. They didn't move into France (Gaul), they were the native tribes of Gaul. Their linguistic and cultural grouping are what made the many and varied tribes of peoples who made up the Celts "Celtic", not their DNA. A kilt is no more 'Celtic' than Lederhosen are. BUT they are comfortable and look good.

I started to read this post, and I went to Wikipedia to look up some facts, and 2 hours later I am back, having read about the origin of language, Scientific theories on the migration of humans, the idea that we might be hybrids of various hominid species, and the like.

I have days like you, too! What starts out as a quick look up on Wikipedia, ends up as yet another morning/afternoon/evening spent larnin'!

I had my Y-DNA tested with 67 markers and the results indicate a Celt paternal lineage. My mitochondrial test (maternal) was much more vague, but included the Celts. I had these tests made to verify my surname background indication. I do not hold my race above any other. If anything, the intrigue created by Alex Haley, in addition to my father, prompted me to start it all.
