Uh, you're making an X-Kilt....not a masterpiece of the traditional kilt makers art.
You're banging out a simple wrapround garment with box pleats, and learning from the process. Quit stressing out over it so much, find some halfway decent fabric for cheap (which you already have), get out the chalk and go to it.
If this stuff is flannel, that won't work. If it's shirt weight, that'll be a bit light. Otherwise, just make the thing!

I completely agree with everything else Alan has said, but why not flannel? I've just read posts where members talk about using their SportKilts (for example) as the equivalent of sweatpants, PJs, and "what I wear between getting out of the shower and getting dressed." So why not a comfy flannel X-Kilt?
{I get all the exercise I need from pushing my luck, jumping to conclusions, and dodging responsibility!}

You know what? If you want an X-Kilt out of flannel, sydnie, then go for it! Tell us how it works out.

I picked up some camo material from Wal-mart for a layaround xkilt. I believe it is a light flannel. It ended up being way too light for public and I feel the need for undergarments around the house to keep everything family friendly - but it's super comfy. It's perfect for those lazy Sunday afternoons.
