I have booked tickets for the games for the Sunday (26th July) and would hope to meet up with other x-markers there.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to meet you on Sunday - we're going Saturday and spending Sunday doing a little sightseeing.
However, I'll be staying in Hawick earlier in the week while attending the Elliot gathering in Newcastleton so who knows...

I've just started to research this. Did not think it possible cause my reenacting takes up April through October and we are also home veggie gardeners. BUT, November might work and I checked out the Ferintosh in Dumfries. How long train trip to Glasgow, Edinburgh or others from Dumfries? And, possibly the weather is not the best at this time. I'm fine with anything but wife would be along.....she's a tough one, but I wouldn't want weather to "dampen" our spirits (but "spirits" can dampen me!!). Also, what other places are there to stay, maybe in Glasgow area?? Malcolm

Jock, thanks for this. I just sent Lord Jamie Semphill (Director of THE GATHERING) this message:
Hi Jamie,
It's Jonathan (Clan Shaw) from the Stone Mountain Highland Games. I was just on the Kilt Forum www.xmarksthescot.com and noticed some comments about who is going to attend THE GATHERING. Ironically, "Jock" from Inverness-Shire in the Highlands says: "I know little of all this and it has never been mentioned up here in the Highlands."
Thought you might like to know this, so maybe you could send a wee bit of info up the Highland way. Love to have more of my countrymen 'in the know' ! =)
Slainte!
Your Friend,
Jonathan Conrad
Hope to see you in Scotland soon.
Cheers,

It will be interesting to see what happens. In the meantime I will rely on those living umpteen thousand miles away to keep me informed.

Like Jock, much of my information has come from America also.
My own Scottish clan has no chieftain and our recognised Clan Society of which I am a member is based in the USA. I learned recently that we are not having a tent at the gathering nor taking part in the Saturday Parade and Pageant, because a small breakaway group, also USA based, has been allocated a tent at the gathering as purported representatives of our clan.
I decided however that just because my clan society are not taking part in the Parade and Pageant should not stop me from attending the Games so I googled Homecoming Gathering and was able to find the official website and buy tickets for the Games on the Sunday.

Thanks for the links Jonathan.
I suspect that now that I have bought tickets for the Sunday Games I will be on their mailing list for future e-mail newsletters.

I forget now how I first heard about The Homecoming year and The Gathering in particular, but I suspect it was mentioned in The Scotsman, which I read most days on-line! However, I have known about it for well over a year now, and have been receiving all the latest information and up-dates by E-mail since then. I applied for 'Silver Passports' as soon as they were announced and booked our long weekend B&B accommodation just outside central Edinburgh before the rush began.
Jim and I will be on the Clan March from Holyrood to The Castle, but not with any clan since we both have allegiances to different clans - we'll be with the hoi-poloi, but loving every minute of it nevertheless !
For the past two months or so we have been seeing some great 'Homecoming' commercials on the ITV channels.
Take care,
Ham.
