Just read your post for fabric. I get remnants from Frasier & Kirkbright. I know Gordon Kirkbright from numerous phone conversations. I have a great kilt from 13 oz wool blend in Douglas pattern. All a great kilt is; is 4 - 5 yards of double width fabric. Call me and I can give you better information as web sites that show how to lay it out wrap it and belt it. I've bought a lot of fabric from Gordon most in 16 oz wool and have alway been pleased sometimes you can find it as low as $15 or $20 a yard. http://www.wooltartan.com/tartans5.htm then to REMNANTS. You coming to Ligioner Saturday? There will be a number of great kilts there and you can see and ask first hand the wearers for pointers. My phone 717-432-2393 and I will give you some web sites that will show you layout and options.
That seems about right. Gordon packages your order in shipping paper wrapped in protective plastic. I've never ordered less than 8 or 10 yards double width fabric and it had a rigid card board center around which the fabric was wrapped.
Allegheny County; Oakland is the part of Pittsburgh where Pitt and CMU are.
There is also Oakland in Susquehaqnna County (the county below Binghamton, NY). Oakland is just across the Susquehanna River from the borough of Susquehanna. (this is the end of the PA geography lesson)
