Memory Eternal!
All in Holy Week too! Which is a rough week to begin with! If you make it (which I hope you do) to the Shroud Service tonight, it'll be tough and emotional, but ultimately healing for you. Remember the connection - Christ "trampled down death by death, and upon those in the tombs, bestowing life"!
I have to remember that whenever I think of my Mom and Dad too.

I'm not as acquainted with you as I am some of the others, but I just wanted to offer my sympathy and prayers to you and your family.

My condolences on your loss.
For the funeral, some standard tunes are 'Flowers of the Forest', 'Amazing Grace', 'Going Home', 'When the Battle's O'er', and 'Londonderry Air' (aka 'Danny Boy').
I also strongly suggest you contact a local pipe band. They should be able to put you in touch with a competent solo piper. There are several in the LA area. Expect the fee to be around $150-200 (probably negotiable).

Some times these things come in groupings. It is very an easy time to have the passing of love ones but I feel like they had done this 'duty' here and have earned a 'promotion' to a higher calling.

Our thoughts are with you John. I'll second what EagleJCS recommended..."Going Home" is a beautiful song to play.

John,
Please accept my condolences at this time. The loss of a parent has a special feeling.
And, you are dealing with your grandmother at the same time.
Hymns: Will the service be next week? Easter hymns are appropriate for the service. Your priest should be able to give you some good guidance. If you are looking for something Celtic, "Be Thou My Vision" sung to the tune Slane an Irish ballad. "Lord of all hopefulness" is also sung to that tune.
Another pipe tune: "The Green Hills of Tyrol" is also used at funerals. When you get a piper, you will need to find out what they have in their repertoire.
If your trips to visit your grandmother bring you to Phoenix, let us know.
Frank
