I am with the majority here.
Underwear if not going regimental, hose/flashes/shoes, shirt/tie, kilt and pin, belt, sporran, waistcoat/jacket/plaid or sweater/sweatshirt, head cover, out the door.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I'm always hose and shoes first. If I kilt first, I can't reach my feet due to my stomach.

Yes, I also do the "bottom, top, middle" routine.

This is probably a matter of personal preference, but I find it's easier to put them on without the interference of the kilt.

I do the same. It's interesting to see the different preferences with something like donning the kilt!

Hmmmm.....since I don't have any formal kilt attire (i.e. jackets, ties, etc.) my process of dressing depends on how casual I chose to be....
If I'm going uber-casual, then it's usually socks first, kilt then a t-shirt. Sometimes a sporran - sometimes not. Depends on if I'll be going out.
If it's just a nice casual, the shirt and kilt hose first. If I'm leaving right away, shoes next. Kilt on last with the belt and sporran to follow. Flashes usually go on last since I always seem to grab those last and I like to adjust them evenly as the last thing I do. Kilt pin next. If I had a sgian dubh, I would put that on last - gonna remedy that situation soon.
Flat cap on and I'm out the door....

on a slightly related note, I dislike when I don't go regimental, if I have to use a restroom, sometimes the undergarment won't quite go back where it was quite right.

I relate to this all too well... and start with hose and shoes for the same reason.
