That really clears it up, it was rather like the joke about the person losign a contact lens in the alley and looking somewhere else because the light was better.
Effectively, we couldn't understand why they felt responsible for it being lost in the van, we missed it's connecting flight so to speak.
Sadly, that does lower the chance of it finding it's way home.

Sad you don't live local. My guess is the camera is now in a local pawn shop, or will be offered up at a swap meet.

JolyStNick,
So sorry to learn of your loss, both for the camera and the photos. I was so looking forward to seeing your photos. I was back in PA since last Thursday for a family event till returning to TN yesterday. Today I've been catching up on X Marks working my way back from threads since last Wednesday when we left.
Earlier today I read your post of your 9 hour trip up from FL and that you would post pics that night, didn't see any added to that thread and wondered why. I just got caught up to this post about 10 minutes ago and found out what happened.
I was lucky at Celebrate Santa, twice I left my camera and walked off without it. Once at a booth and later in a seminar room. Folks tracked me down and told me where it was. I hope the Fire Chief follows through for you.

Got the final ok last night. they found the exact camera in Atlanta and ordered it for me. It should be here by the end of the week.
They are some pretty terrific people up there. And I told them that in no uncertain terms. I spoke to the Chief at length last night and he still feels bad that it happened, I tried to tell him that it was as much my fault as anyone's, but I'm not sure if it did any good. We both agreed that the pictures will never be able to be replaced but then I told him of the group that we have here at Xmarks and how everyone is sharing their photo's of the GMHG's and I think that made him feel a bit better, and for sure it does me. Linda is really enjoying each and every one that you post and so is David, my son.
I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for that.

What a great ending !!!
It's like Christmas in July, but this time. Santa gets the new toy (a camera) to replace the one he lost.
What a great job on the part of the Chief, he's on the GOOD LIST now for sure.
