Thank you, I'm quite pleased with it myself! Have decided to try to "end the knot" above the ankle, just playing around with some options (using a waste swatch in green).
Hoping for something along the lines of this very klutzy rendition, bringing the two outer cables together at the bottom in a U or V shape with all the other cables going beneath to disappear. Haven't quite gotten there yet, my tries so far look too much like this LOL

If you work the stitches that are "whited-out" in the pic in a moss or seed stitch, it will frame the cables and ease some of the stretching caused by the cables. And, you might consider working 2 rounds of ribbing on the hem of the cuff, so that it will lie smooth and even.
I really like that red, by the way.

Way too late for ribbing on the hem of this pair but I'll keep it in mind next time.
Yes, the cables are already framed by purling and I plan to carry some of the surrounding purl stitches into the "whited out" area. Also need to do a little bit of decreasing at the end of the cable area (only 5 stitches decrease).

That is going to look smashing. You've got me thinking (again) about acquiring some red socks.

OK, I think my fourth version of the "end of cable" is going to work. I tried purling all the way around the bottom end, but it didn't look good. Then I brought it down into solid knit stitch, which was OK. . .

But then I added two lines of ribbing to match the ribbing on the rest of the calf. . .

And I think that's the ticket!
