    Sportkilt Sash

Let me beat JockScot to it !

Those sashes look silly. I firmly believe that anybody can wear whatever they like. However, as a full-time kilt-wearer in Edinburgh I must say I really do get p....d off when people try and copy Scottish national dress and make a complete mess of it, as Sportkilt have here. It ruins the sense of national pride in our national dress and makes the (sorry, but it usually is) Americans look silly.

By all means wear our national dress but give it some respect, please.

This is not aimed at all those who wear the kilt properly ( and I know there are lots of you).

    Well, not for me thanks.
I was once offered the loan of a fly plaid at short notice to wear to a dinner, which I declined as I was uncertain how to wear it properly. I think one of these sashes, or a fly plaid worn incorrectly or on the wrong shoulder, just looks silly, but a fly plaid which the wearer has taken the time to learn how to wear it correctly can look very smart.
I would wear a proper fly plaid on a formal occasion and indeed a fly plaid is on my current wants list, but I would not wear one of these sashes.

I know WHY they're selling them... that's about the width of scrap fabric unused from the middle section of the material. They can make money off of their scraps.

USA Kilts also sells sashes similar to this, but NEVER advocate them for men. Sashes are for women. These aren't fly plaids or even 'mini fly' plaids... they're sashes.

I have had men come into the store and put the sash on the counter to buy with their kilt and have TOLD/convinced them not to buy it OR to buy it and give it to their wife to wear.

and how much do yours run Rocky? I haven't seen them on your website.

Like I said, I want a sash to match my hubby's kilt when wearing my mini kilt isn't appropriate, and I haven't found a MacPherson one in wool that comes as close to Batley, so I was looking at Sport Kilt's PV ones.

It looks like something for someone who doesn't want the weight/warmth/ or hassle of wearing a great kilt... yet still wants the look of the shoulder throw. I like the look, but would prefer to get an ancient kilt even though it's not traditional.

Aren't sashes such as this traditionally worn by the women?

As Kev says, it's probably for casual wearers who want to evoke the look of a Great Kilt, without having to roll around on the ground to put it on.

I actually like how it looks on the models, but SK is a California thing (warm weather anyway), and here we get real winter weather. Snow even! So a plaid works for me.

    btw, Kev,

SK has offered those for years... You see a lot of guys at renfaires going for the 'Braveheart' look with the Sportkilt and sash combo.
