Isn't there a middle ground, though? When someone specifically asks for opinions/critiques on particular clothing choices, isn't it better to offer (what you personally see as) helpful advice rather than an untrue and patronizing "thumbs up", "looks great" if that isn't really isn't the case?

    Cordially,

    David

Of course. We should be helpful. Nothing wrong with being helpful.

In 1688 the Governor of the Isle of Man wrote a description of Highlanders: "Their thighs are bare, with brawny muscles . . . a thin brogue on the foot, a short buskin of various colours on the legg, tied above the calf with a striped pair of garters. What should be concealed is hid with a large shot-pouch, on each side of which hangs a pistol and a dagger. A round target on their backs, a blew bonnet on their heads, and in one hand a broad sword and a musquet in the other."
Pretty much all you need to know.

I'm always suspicious of the types who show up with everything perfectly matched...there's something not quite right about that...

But it's always been that way. Kilts or no kilts, some guys can just throw on whatever and look smashing and some fellas might feel a little bit insecure and feel that they have to observe some kind of set of regulations in order to be legit.

Remember, you should be wearing the clothes...I've seen too many folks who look like the clothes are wearing them.

    Best

    AA
