I don't remember Hemingway mentioning Dockers in the three requirements for being a man.

Did Sinatra ever wear Dockers? Didn't think so. I mean, Dockers are only about 20 years old. Why do they have the right to invoke the memory of the "old ol' [apparently misogynist] days"?

I had to take a little break this morning to go out and move a flock of sheep. It's -10C and snowing this morning. My wife and I and one of our friends (who's owner of some of the sheep and getting the rest) got the older ones pointed in the right direction and like, well, like sheep the rest of them trotted right along to their new home. We even got our half-wild llama going along, which was something I thought was gonna take a ropin'. We managed to rope him once and he'll booger at anything that looks like a rope now.
Oddly enough, I didn't put on Dockers before doing this. Hmmmm...
Was a walkin' advertisement for Carhartt, Sorel and Filson, though...

If this ad was sexist (and I didn't find it so) what would they think of the opening of the old Three Stooges short that said something like "In olden times, when men were men.......and women were glad!"

Very sad commentary on our world if what it takes to be a man is to wear dockers. In my opinion it takes a great deal more and that includes being responsible for being a good ancestor. I doubt that many of my male ancestors wore dockers. Cultural and historical myopia seems to be an excuse for being able to say anything one wants. In the spirit of our feminist colleagues lets all burn our dockers.

It is rather like certain sweets which advertised themselves as being what grandad was given as a child, and is now giving to his own grandchild - despite no one having heard of them before.
Oh well - most advertising is wishful thinking - but this seems to be on the part of the advertising men - it could only be men...

...sexist remark??? Or merely a bit of wry humor?
I didn't find the ad to be sexist or misogynistic. It is edgy, given that many people tend to look for excuses to take offense at every opportunity. And, as soon as they find something they consider offensive, they take every opportunity to complain about it. In that regard the Dockers ad campaign will be successful. Dockers has already garnered 30 postings on this forum, and without spending a nickle on advertising. Most, probably something like 99%, who don't like the ad probably fall outside the Dockers target market. This group probably hasn't bought the product in the past, and are unlikely to buy the product in the future, with or without this ad campaign.
All in all, I'd say Dockers is pretty damn clever. Oh, and by the way, the person at Dockers who approved this ad campaign is a woman.
