New Ferguson Britt sporran in progress

With HRH the late Princess Diana in the picture, who cares what the sporran is?

I like Matt's idea about the plain sporrans, and hope to see pictures of the finished article.

But - a propos of BoldHighlander's suggestion - something of a military Scottish flavour should sometime be named "Lochnagar," a mountain with royal links in the Grampians, immortalized by Byron among others, and also a famous crater created on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916, just before the Tyneside Scottish went over the top, mostly to their deaths.

Oh, and we do have a name. I mentioned some of the ideas on this forum to Mr. Britt himself, and he appreciates the input, however he had already selected a name which he thinks quite fitting.

As you know most of his sporran designs are named after geographical locations in Scotland. For this one, he chose the name "Glen Lean." It's the name of a Glen near Loch Tarsan in Argyll & Bute, a bit south of the Trossachs.

I can't wait for it to arrive, and of course there will be pics!

But then I remember that I need not worry about evening wear too much.

I think it's a neat project, and a very good idea.

Me too. But my first question is going to be, "for being so simple and plain, are they going to be any cheaper than the other FB sporrans?" I'd love to own a FB sporran, but the cost is just unrealistic for me. If my wife spent that much money on her purse, I'd likely have a conniption fit. Spending that much on a much smaller and less functional pouch is something I just can't justify. Maybe if this very simple FB sporran becomes a regular product and the price is lower than the others, I could justify one.

I've always enjoyed the plain military style sporran. I don't own any, but my dad does, and it's always caught my eye. (He added a St. Andrew emblem on it which makes it really catchy).
Anyway, when I saw the cost of one of these typical military style sporrans, I was surprised at the expense! But then again, where can you find top-quality Scottish attire at inexpensive prices? I don't own any Fergusson Britt sporrans, but I have held a few and while I would have had some issues with the opening of one in particular that I looked at, they are lovely products that certainly are priced according to their quality.

Whilst my sporran(shown in the picture here) is plain, if you look closely it has three leather tassels, so really, it should not be mistaken for the "military style plain sporran".

I have two military style sporrans--one with a plain flap and brass button like the one Matt showed, and the other with a sewn down flap--and I have always loved the simplicity. I just got a new (to me) pig skin version with the sewn down flap but with some decorative stitching, so I may not be wearing my others for a while.

I don't have a good picuture of me wearing the other, but it looks like this:

The point here is that though both are kind of "military," they aren't "militaristic" so you don't look like you're playing soldier. They are just plain, functional sporrans which look good with casual clothes.
