Very nicely done sir, you obviously have good skills. I think I like the looks of your first version a bit better than the second, and when I'm in a postion to buy some headgear will be the style I'll look for. Your son wears it well, and like others I'm looking forward to seeing the finished products.
Should you decide to make a few more I think there would definitely be a market out here...I know I'd be interested.

Thanks all for the compliments. I will be producing more of them...so you may see some come up for sale occasionally...but no promises.

I was reading somewhere about caubeens, and it mentioned some soldiers had made their own from the great coats of German or Italian soldiers, back in WWII. I wonder if any tams were field made like these, too... I guess field expediant soldiers would make what they needed, with whatever they had on hand... sooooo.. blankets would be acceptable...as well as coats and other recycleables..

Very nice work! Making it yourself gives you the luxury of a good fit, a personalized style and your choice of materials You hit a home run with this project.

I have to have the right material in burgundy so I can make one for re-enacting as the triple knit wool tams that the men wear are awfully warm and the way they hang way over the right ear reduces the periferal on that side making it difficult to stay in formation during parades.
If I can find the right material, I will send it along with my measurements.

No offense; but, "the boy has the exact same size nugget as mine..." just reminded me of Mike Myres' cult classic movie 'So, I Married an Axe-murderer'---well worth watching again! :-D
The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.
