It is really sad though - to know enough to put the film onto the internet, and yet to be so totally ignorant of the subject.

i have to agree, the knowledge to make a kilt properly is freely available on the internet, someone with the technical skill to make and edit an instructional video should be capable of performing a simple google search, you google how to make a kilt and you get 1.3 million results, the first 5 of which look to my untrained eye capable of making a proper kilt, the end result in the pictures looks right to me and far superior to what appears in that video. they didn't research or experiment, they just dived in with both feet and opened themselves up to ridicule they could have avoided by some simple research

At the risk of reiterating my "***" above, it's not a DIRECT critique of the work itself. Heck, if he joined up here, I am sure we'd all welcome him and tell him his costume is a good first step and encourage him to purchase another kilt from (insert anyone's personal prefference here) and wear it out anywhere he likes. If he can't afford one, I'm sure just as many would chime in with polite suggestions how to improve his kilt in the video (tapering hips, sewing down the fell, centering a stripe on the pleats, apron width, etc).
It's the fact he's putting himsef out there as a kiltmaker and has gone to the extent to edit (pretty decently) a video and create it and put it in the public domain. Maybe if he titled it "Costume Kilts made easy" we'd have less of a reaction to it.

Good point. I wonder if maybe he googled "kilt pictures" and saw all those shots from Braveheart and Rob Roy and just tried to reverse-engineer it from there. Of course, after reviewing it again(because I needed a good laugh) he never really says that it's a "proper" kilt, a costume, or what his purpose is. Maybe he just figured that those Halloween costumes don't come in "tartans" he likes. Who knows?
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

My turn, my turn:
This is from the "notes" section of the video - " Tidefront | October 13, 2009
This is a cheap design for mass quick kilts used in an annual Highland Games event. In no way is this supposed to be an official kilt. Thanks for the comments. And please for all you super serious kilt experts have fun with your own designs."
so there is SOME explanation to the kilt, for what it is worth....

I guess I am forced to retract some of my snarky comments. He COULD have said that in the actual video...
Although I can't imagine seeing a kilt like that worn at a Highland Games, apart from by someone with a woad (artificial) painted face.

Aye, but which one of us have NOT seen many crimes against Highland attire committed at Highland Games events? (Seeing a heavy event competitor wearing his kilt backwards - pleats forward two years ago comes to mind)...
