Hence the state is indeed split in two - weird how some of these borders work.

A cross between a Wisconsinite, a Canadian, and a Michigander is apt. I only drink Vernors when I'm sick, and hockey is, perhaps surprisingly, not as popular as you'd think up here. Football is the big sport - lots of Packers fans! And the Upper Peninsula is actually contiguous with northern Wisconsin, but close enough. Any other questions are welcome!
Hey Cousin--did you get an answer to your original question? I'm flumuxed by it. Also--I think it's of GREAT importance that we educate the rabble on a VERY salient point regarding the U. P. ...

Michigan and Ohio fought a brief war (I think a mule died and brothers with the first names of One and Two shot at each other)...Ohio got Toledo. Michigan got the U.P. Ahem....Michigan won!!!!!

    (I know...hey, I was born in Toledo--but LOVE the U.P.)

Weird thing, I work in the one county of MI that is on 2 (politically isolated) peninsulas. Many locals aren't aware of the lost peninsula, unless they live really close to it... (also the one county that in part has an out-of-state area code in it)

I didn't get an answer to my original question - I suppose I'll post that to another forum.

And, how right you are! Yesterday was actually the anniversary of that "war". It's one of the reasons for Yooper resentment towards you sugarbeeters. Or, do you consider yourself a buckeye?

Sir I am a proud sugarbeeter Actually grew up on a 150 acre farm---in MEEEECHIGAN--- where we did in fact grow sugar beets! No matter how we stole it--I'm glad we have the UP. Hope you get an answer to your question soon. Not to hijack your thread, but there are a number of Highland games popping up around the top of the mitten and in the UP. I missed competing at one this year--but hope to make it next year.

I love the U.P. enthusiasm sir. And, ya know, I wasn't aware that there were games in the U.P. - northern Michigan, sure, but I didn't think there was a substantial enough population of Scottish descent up there. Where are the ones you know of?
