That display helps a lot Rocky. No vertigo! That blue on the bottom right does pop. However, I am still partial to the first and wonder what a darker grey stripe would look like.

My preference is the revision with the black and blue lines. I have definite dislike for the blue and red on the bottom right. Where the red and blue cross, the eye sees a purple which is not pleasing in my opinion. Just my 2 cents, for what its worth.

Any hints of what this tartan is being designed for?

myself... the colors have meaning, as does the design it was based on (no one guessed that yet) and some of the thread count.

I like most of the color combos tried but still find something wanting. I think the comment about the grid hit home with me---it seems too mathematical, with lots of small boxes of near equal size within fewer bigger boxes also of equal size. Feels like the rigid repetition needs to be broken up with something that skews the regularity of the pattern a bit, making the red and grey bands different sizes or varying the two accent stripes in each bigger color band might make it more visually appealing. Just one man's O.

Back to the original I thought the blue version was great but looking again side by side the original feels strong maybe perhaps a darker grey to the original without any black lines.

No it's the opinion of two men.

I saw no problem with the original, although I like the 3rd one with the blue stripes in the gray better. However if the colors are significant to you, then adding or changing them may not be an option. I definitely did not like the "superman" tartan.
