Hi Mike,my wife is from Durban and seemed a bit unsure about the kilt at first but grew to like it and we got married there with me wearing mine.

It is good to come across Irish kilt wearers. My wife is of Irish and English ancestry and despises the kilt!
Hopefully the arrival of my first kilt within a few days will change her mind.
    Regards,
    Mike

Well, Natal is the last outpost of the British Empire, and much more English than Scottish.
In fact, it has no kilted regiments, whereas there are such units in Gauteng, the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape.
My father served in a Natal regiment, although its base was Pietermaritzburg, not Durban.
My brother lived in Durban (Botha’s Hill and Hilton) for a while, but later moved to Maritzburg.
    Where in Durban were you?
Glad to know you were kilted at your wedding, at any rate.
    Regards,
    Mike
