The astronaut helmut is okay as long as it's not white.

In cool weather I wear a Tilley Winter Hat, essentially a tweed fedora. And I unapologetically (all right, apologetically, I'm sorry but I'm Canadian) wear it with my Harris Tweed jacket and kilt. ith:

A panama hat, yes.
A fedora, no.
It's that simple.

The trick is in getting to know one another, don't you think?

Both our friends have different styles. MOR is more absolute, bear-bating...and I've come to love the style of his posts. Behind them is a keen sense of humor, just as with JSFMACLJR. They are very far from curmudgeons ("a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person"); it was simply a misuse of the word.
Name-calling for good or badattempts to sum up someone in a single word. It is that which diminishes rather than the actual meaning of the epithet. So of course, the traidtionalist view is welcome and vital here, among all the other vital voices. Of course, tradition is not commandment.

Matty, the Scoutmaster hat looks great on you as does the kilt. I usually have the Scouting pin on my hat as well but am finding out that other pins on the hat add some interest and generate converstation too.

I demand the opinion of Jock Scot.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Well my answer will probably defy all logic, but I really do not think the fedora goes with the kilt. There are far better options that are also more traditional, such as the" deer stalker" and the "fore 'n aft". However, in warmer climes outwith Scotland I can see the sense of a panama, or the Tilly type hat.
Jock and "fore 'n aft".

There are very few days fishing when I would not wear a tie.
